What we collect
We aim to collect only what’s necessary to run the Site, keep it secure, and understand what content helps people.
1) Information you provide
- Contact messages: name, email, and whatever you type in a message to us.
- Comments / forms (if enabled): the content you post, your display name, and (optionally) your website.
2) Information collected automatically
- Basic logs and security events: IP address, user-agent, pages viewed, timestamps, referring URL. Used for reliability and abuse prevention.
- Analytics (minimal): we may use analytics to understand page popularity and aggregate usage. If we use a third-party analytics tool (e.g., Google Analytics or a privacy-respecting alternative), it may set its own cookies—see Cookies below.
3) Third-party embeds & links
- YouTube, Twitch, GitHub, social embeds: if you view embedded players or widgets, those services may collect data according to their policies.
- Affiliate links: when disclosed, some outbound links are affiliate links (e.g., Amazon). If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
We do not sell your personal information.
How we use information
- To operate and maintain the Site (load pages, prevent spam/abuse, fix bugs).
- To respond to your messages.
- To analyze aggregate trends so we can write more useful posts.
- If/when we run ads or sponsorships, to comply with disclosure and platform requirements.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR/UK GDPR): legitimate interests (running a secure, functional site), consent (where required for non-essential cookies/embeds), and contract (when you ask us to contact you).
Cookies & similar tech
- Essential cookies: required for core functionality and security.
- Analytics cookies (if enabled): help us understand traffic and improve content.
- Embedded media cookies: YouTube/Twitch players or similar may set cookies when you press play.
You can control cookies in your browser settings. If we deploy a cookie banner, you’ll be able to make granular choices there.
Ads, sponsorships, and affiliates
- Ads (e.g., Google AdSense): If enabled, ad partners may use cookies or device identifiers to deliver and measure ads. You can manage Google ad personalization in your Google Ad Settings and learn more in their policies.
- Sponsorships: we label sponsored posts/videos clearly.
- Affiliate disclosure: some links are affiliate links. We only recommend tools/hardware we genuinely find useful.
Data sharing
We share data with service providers who help us operate the Site (hosting, security, analytics, form handling). They’re bound to process data only on our instructions and under confidentiality. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or to investigate abuse.
Data retention
- Contact messages: retained as long as needed to respond and maintain records.
- Logs/security events: typically 30–180 days unless needed longer for investigations.
- Comments/content: retained while published. If you delete a comment, residual backups may persist for a limited time.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.
- EU/UK residents: rights under GDPR/UK GDPR include access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection, and restriction. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
- California residents: we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may request access or deletion of your personal information by emailing [email protected].
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (HTTPS, least-privilege access, timely patching). No system is perfectly secure; please use caution when sharing sensitive information.
International transfers
The Site is operated from the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, your information may be processed in the U.S. by us or our providers.
Children’s privacy
The Site is for a general audience and not directed to children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
